The Folk Project sponsors weekend-long festivals in the Spring and Fall in remote sections of rural New Jersey far from the madding crowd. Featured acts are established names or up-and-coming performers in the Folk Music world. These events are held at Star Lake Camp in Bloomington, NJ. Star Lake is a 400-acre camp located in the beautiful foothills of the Ramapo Mountains. Most participants and all the performers stay overnight at the camp, which offers a variety of housing options from rustic, but heated cabins with hot showers to the modern and private facilities of the Lodge. There are scheduled concerts, workshops, dances, a play, singalongs, jams, and lots of participatory music, scheduled and otherwise. Non-musical activities such as boating, hiking, Frisbee, etc. are also available. Activities take place at many sites around the campground, with indoor facilities for all scheduled music. The usual festival dates are the 3rd weekend in May and Columbus Day weekend (the weekend preceding the 2nd Monday in October), but check here for each Festival to be sure there is no change. |
