GEORGE MILLER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Guidelines

  1. Only Folk Project members are eligible to apply.

  2. Scholarship applications must be submitted in writing (hard copy) to the scholarship coordinator. Applications will be accepted starting six weeks before the Early Bird registration deadline, and must be received no later than two weeks before the Early Bird registration deadline.

  3. Applicants will select the amount they wish to apply for: $45 or $90.

  4. No more than two persons per household may apply for scholarships.

  5. If more people apply than available funds can cover, scholarships will be awarded in the following manner:
    1. Giving first priority to those who did not receive scholarships the previous festival.
    2. In the order that the applications were received.
    3. By lottery, if we don't have enough funds to award scholarships to all applicants who would otherwise have equal priority.
    4. A prioritized wait list will be established for those who were not awarded scholarships. If any scholarships are forfeited, they will go to those in this wait list (see below).

  6. The Festival Chair will notify the scholarship coordinator of the amount of money available in the fund.

  7. Those who are awarded scholarships will be notified at least 1 week before the Early Bird Deadline. The festival chair will be given the list of names with the amounts awarded. Scholarship recipients must get their registrations in before the Early Bird deadline or forfeit their scholarships. In this case, that scholarship will be offered to the next person on the wait list.

  8. The process will be confidential. The only people who will know who applied for and received scholarships are
    1. the applicants themselves,
    2. the scholarship coordinator,
    3. the Festival Chair, and
    4. the registrar.

  9. The coordinator and the Festival Chair will be jointly responsible for maintaining confidential records on who was awarded scholarships in any given year.
